Our Routines
New Arrivals:
New dogs/puppies is always an exciting moment here at White Wind Kennel. Its the chance for the staff to create a new special bond with that new special someone.
When a new arrival arrives at our kennel, we are sure to give them space since they may be a little shy of their new surroundings. Before they are taken to their kennel, they are Vet Checked by our trusty Vet, Clara Lee. She is in charge of any record from the moment they arrive to a moment they leave. For example, if any harm had been done to the dog/puppy during its time at their old kennel or during their travel, we would have records of anything that happens within our kennel etc. This is important since we dont want any harm to come to them whilst at our kennel. After being fully vet checked, they will have their profile photo taken and then they will be taken for a walk around the area. This will help them adjust to their new surroundings and noises. Lastly they will be taken to their new personal kennel. Our kennels are separated and breed specific. Genders are on opposite sides, incase any females come into heat (Since this will make the males go crazy :S). Staff will do hourly checks on the new arrivals to ensure their safety and to keep them company.
Showing:
A few days before any dogs show is crucial to us. They need this time for last minute training, grooming and bonding with the staff who will be showing them. We participate in shows regularly to keep our dogs as active as possible. Most times we show them because their previous kennel has a rule to show them at least once a month, which we respect and follow.
When the dogs are in training, we dont always make sure they look beautiful, we prefer to focus on their structure and energy. We never show dogs that dont look able to complete the event. Once they are ready to show and the day arrives, we wash them, trim their nails and groom them to look their very best. We want our dogs to earn their titles, and to do their bestest during their show, so this is why grooming is important. We also hope to give them a better start in life, and to do so, we dont do hard training, we prefer to do gradual training with plenty of praise and treats. This usually gets a more positive outcome once their show has finished. There is usually a vet on site at our kennel, so they are ALWAYS vet checked before travelling. Our dogs are aloud to bring along a soothing toy/object to their show so it relieves any stress. Stress reliefs are also crucial during any event, since it isnt healthy for a dog to get too stressed. Once a show is finished, they are filled with praise and cuddles from the staff. They will have free time at the kennel, where they are free to roam either inside or outside their kennel. We do this because they have usually had a very busy day, with rules etc. So free time is the best feeling after a competition.
